A winning combination of an Olympic year and the 26th Charlbury Beer Festival naturally led the event’s organisers towards a theme based on the 26-mile race that captures the spirit of the Games like no other. It’s just a shame the 26th was not a Saturday to complete the symmetry.
So they are delighted to announce this year’s event will take place on Saturday 29th June. The day of fun, festivity and fundraising for all the family is taking place as usual at Charlbury Cricket Club, Oxfordshire from 12 noon to 9pm.

The Charlbury Beer Festival is the biggest independent beer festival in Oxfordshire, some feat considering it all began with some school dads bringing a few barrels to a fundraiser. Last time round, over 3000 beer lovers turned up to sample the wares, to help raise money for local groups and causes by drinking in the sunshine.
With more fun guaranteed in 2024, along with more money raising for community projects, both in the Charlbury area and overseas. After the last small-scale festival, organisers celebrated taking the total funds raised for good causes to around £300,000. Which is a truly phenomenal effort.
Last year they awarded grants to Charlbury’s Baby and Toddler Group, Community Centre, Community Workshop, Cricket Club, Exhibition Foundation, Girl Guides, Pre-School, Primary School, Scout Group, Wildlife Society, Youth Football Club, and Chipping Norton Theatre; as well as an overseas project supporting education for children and young women in Afghanistan. It really does fantastic local work, so is worthy of your hard earned money.
Let’s face it, it’s thanks to all those people who have come to enjoy a day out in the sunshine and helped quaff some of the finest ales available. And it is also thanks to those generous sponsors who have financed the beers and the entertainment tents, and of course, the beers themselves, plus the many hours that committee members and other volunteers have put in over the years. Cheers all round!
It’s hard work, and it’s thirsty work supporting such a great cause. So it’s lucky the day will incorporate around 60 real ales, a variety of craft beers, a range of ciders and perries, wine, gin, and Pimm’s. There is a great selection of food and multiple food vendors; live music throughout to ensure the festival atmosphere; the Culture Tent with its eclectic programme of performances and talks; kids entertainment in the children’s tent.
Plus the highly anticipated and top-notch sport with the 12th Aunt Sally World Championships, with bookies favourite Rob Bradford hoping to win the crown for the third year on the bounce. I’m personally hoping I will work out the magic number of pints to have pre-match, as it is clearly less than I usually consume.
Charlbury Cricket Club provides the glorious setting again, just across the road from Charlbury station. There are excellent all-day bus and train services to and from Charlbury to Oxford, Chipping Norton, Reading, Witney, Worcester and London, so you don’t even need to drive if you want to have a drink. Or run a Marathon!
