The Cake Shop is returning to Oxford city centre this November, two years after moving to Witney, with a new store just outside the Covered Market where the business began.
The shop at 3 Golden Cross is due to start trading during the week beginning Monday 9 November 2026. A separate opening celebration is planned for Saturday 14 November, with cake and ribbon cutting from 11.15am.
Founded in the Covered Market in 1986, the business will return close to its original home, in Golden Cross Walk leading into the market. Customers will be able to buy ready-made cakes and personalised designs in store and online.
In a statement, the team said: “We’ve missed our Oxford customers enormously.”
“We’ve enjoyed our time in Witney and are grateful for the customers who supported us there, but Oxford has always felt like home. We couldn’t be happier to be coming back!”
Cake decorating while you wait
The Oxford shop will introduce a personalisation-while-you-wait service alongside decorated cakes ready to take away for birthdays and other celebrations.
Cake decorators will work in view of customers, continuing a feature of the business’s former Covered Market shop. Wedding and event consultations will also be offered, while bespoke cakes will remain available by consultation, subject to a minimum order value.
The team said: “We want to make it easier for people to find something special, whether they need a cake to take away that day or want to plan something truly bespoke.”
Opening celebration on 14 November
The business is inviting customers to its opening celebration from 11.15am to 11.45am on Saturday 14 November. It says complimentary samples will be available and the Lord Mayor of Oxford is expected to attend the cake-cutting and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
