A Voice That Echoes Through the Folk World

Hailed by Uncut as a songwriter whose work is “as penetrating as Richard Thompson’s best”, Sam Carter has spent the last 15+ years building a reputation as one of the most compelling voices in British folk.

From Camden to Canada, Carter has stirred audiences at major festivals and intimate clubs alike, blending rich storytelling with his exceptional guitar work.

He has released six solo albums and toured internationally both solo and with folk-rock band False Lights. His music draws on English folk traditions, shape-note singing, and rock influences, a fusion that has earned him high praise from some of the industry’s finest:

“The finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation.”

Jon Boden (Bellowhead)

“A killer voice.”

Nitin Sawhney, Ivor Novello Award-winning producer

Featuring Songs from Silver Horizon

Carter’s most recent release, Silver Horizon, climbed into the Top 40 Folk Chart and has been widely acclaimed for its dreamlike, layered soundscape. Produced by Andy Bell at Red Kite Studios in Wales, the album weaves themes of love, loss, and change with poetic grace and instrumental elegance.

The album features Stuart McCallum (The Breath) on guitar, whose reverb-drenched textures add depth to Carter’s introspective lyrics and fingerstyle mastery.

“I’m still dealing with themes of love, loss, and change” says Carter of his music, “But sketching events in an impressionistic way gives the songs more room to breathe.”

Expect a mix of new material and fan favourites, from the ethereal to the emotionally raw.

Why You Should Go

Whether you’re a long-time folk fan or simply looking to experience an evening of authentic live music close to home, Sam Carter’s performance promises to deliver the kind of musical storytelling that stays with you long after the final note.

With support from Oxfordshire based Three Idle Women who will regale us with songs and stories about canals and canal boats, don’t miss this chance to catch one of the UK’s finest folk musicians right in the heart of Harwell.
