Boots has unveiled the results of a major makeover at its existing Oxford Retail Park store in Cowley.
The refurbishment has reorganised the branch’s beauty, health and wellness departments, bringing a wider selection of contemporary brands to the retail park while aiming to make the different ranges easier to navigate.
The pharmacy remains open alongside the refreshed retail areas, providing NHS prescriptions and services including Pharmacy First.
Boots says the Oxford project forms part of a continuing programme of investment in its stores around the UK.
New beauty and wellness brands added
The most visible changes include an expanded beauty department featuring several brands that have built audiences through social media, online beauty communities and the growing interest in Korean skincare.
Newly highlighted ranges include K-beauty names Beauty of Joseon, Medicube and Anua, alongside Sacheu, Wonderskin, Morphe and Catrice.
The store also carries established Boots brands including No7, Liz Earle and Soap & Glory, together with a new selection of premium and travel-sized beauty products.
Boots says several of the newer ranges are available at the Cowley branch for the first time. Individual products and shades remain subject to stock, so shoppers looking for a particular item should check online or telephone the store before making a special journey.
The health and wellness department has also been reorganised, with sections covering supplements, hydration products and products marketed around skin, energy and general wellbeing.
Brands listed as part of the refreshed range include Wellthy by Boots, Liquid I.V., ViDrate, Humantra, Zooki, Absolute Collagen, Heights, Unfabled and Tonic Vitamins.
Store manager Mark Lewis said: “We’re so pleased to introduce our new, modernised store to customers in Oxford.
“With the refurbishment, we’re able to offer our customers an even better shopping experience, with more premium beauty brands than ever before, alongside a wide range of products to support our customers’ health, beauty and wellness journeys.
“We’re proud to be part of the Oxford community, and this transformation means we can deliver an even more modern and enhanced store experience for our customers.”
Pharmacy First continues at the Cowley store
The retail makeover has not replaced the branch’s pharmacy services.
Boots’ current store information lists NHS Pharmacy First, the NHS Blood Pressure Checking Service and the NHS New Medicine Service among the services available in Cowley.
Pharmacy First allows eligible patients in England to speak directly to a pharmacist about seven defined conditions without first needing a GP appointment.
| Pharmacy First condition | Current NHS age range |
|---|---|
| Earache caused by acute otitis media | Ages 1 to 17 |
| Impetigo | Age 1 and over |
| Infected insect bites | Age 1 and over |
| Shingles | Age 18 and over |
| Sinusitis | Age 12 and over |
| Sore throat | Age 5 and over |
| Uncomplicated urinary tract infection | Women aged 16 to 64 |
The pharmacist will assess the symptoms and check whether the patient meets the relevant clinical criteria.
Depending on that assessment, the person may receive self-care advice, an appropriate medicine or referral to a GP, urgent treatment centre or another NHS service. Some prescription-only medicines can be supplied where the national pathway permits, but antibiotics and other treatments are not provided automatically.
People do not always need an appointment for Pharmacy First, although availability depends on a pharmacist being present and able to carry out the consultation.
Anyone travelling for a time-sensitive service should call 01865 717699 or check the Boots Pharmacy First information before setting out.
When Pharmacy First may not be appropriate
Pharmacy First is intended for defined common conditions and does not replace emergency or urgent medical care.
Call 999 for a life-threatening emergency. Use NHS 111 when urgent help is needed but the situation is not life-threatening.
A pharmacist may refer a patient elsewhere where symptoms are severe, outside the relevant age range, have lasted too long or suggest a different underlying problem.

Other services listed at Boots Oxford Retail Park
The branch continues to dispense NHS and private prescriptions and offers a private consultation area.
The New Medicine Service provides follow-up support to eligible patients who have recently started certain medicines for long-term conditions. The service is intended to help people understand how to take the medicine, discuss problems or side effects and raise questions with a pharmacist.
The store is also listed as providing NHS blood-pressure checks. Eligibility applies, and people should check whether an appointment is required.
Other services shown on the current Boots listing include pharmacy contraception services, emergency contraception and malaria-prevention advice.
Availability may depend on the pharmacist, appointment capacity and the customer’s clinical circumstances. Some private services also carry a charge.
A note about supplements and wellness products
The expanded wellness range includes vitamins, minerals, collagen products and hydration supplements.
These are retail products and should not be treated as substitutes for prescribed medicine, a balanced diet or professional medical advice.
Some supplements, foods and herbal ingredients can interact with medicines or increase the likelihood of side effects.
People taking regular medication, receiving treatment for a health condition, preparing for surgery, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should ask a pharmacist, GP or another appropriate healthcare professional before beginning a new supplement where they are unsure.
Customers should read the full label, follow the stated dose and avoid combining several products containing the same vitamins or active ingredients without checking the total amount.
Further safety advice is available from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

The branch is at Oxford Retail Park on Ambassador Avenue. It should not be confused with Boots stores at Templars Square, Cowley Road or elsewhere in Oxford.
Customers using public transport should check their route shortly before travelling, particularly while local service changes are being introduced across Oxford.
Refurbishment adds to Cowley’s retail offer
The project is a refurbishment of the existing Boots branch rather than the opening of a new store.
For customers in Cowley, Blackbird Leys, Greater Leys, Rose Hill and surrounding areas, the principal change is a broader selection of beauty and wellness products without needing to travel into central Oxford.
The long Monday-to-Saturday opening hours also make the branch one of the later-opening Boots locations in the city, although customers needing a pharmacist should still check service availability.
Boots says the work is part of its wider investment in modernising stores and adapting layouts around changing customer demand.
