Thame Cricket Club have announced exciting and ambitious plans for a new clubhouse and pavilion, signalling a significant upgrade to its existing facilities. These plans, well-supported by Thame Town Council, aim to provide a modern, multi-use facility that will benefit the entire community.

Vision for the New Pavilion

The proposed development includes a state-of-the-art clubhouse designed to serve not only the cricket club but also Thame Hockey Club, Thame Netball Club, and potentially other sports and community groups. The new facility will replace the current structure at Church Meadow, which has served the club for over 40 years.

Funding and Support

The project is estimated to cost around £825,000. Funding will come from a mix of sources, including South Oxfordshire District Council, Sport England, the English Cricket Board (ECB), local businesses, and Thame Cricket Club’s fundraising efforts. As of the announcement, the club had already raised £30,000. Additionally, significant contributions are expected from Section 106 developer funds, allocated specifically for community infrastructure improvements.

Community Benefits

The new pavilion is expected to provide numerous benefits to the local community. It will offer a versatile space for sports clubs, local charities, businesses, and fitness groups. The Thame & District Day Centre also plans to utilize the new facility for its activities, ensuring the pavilion serves a wide range of community needs.

Timeline and Future Developments

If all goes as planned, demolition of the existing facilities is set to begin in September 2017, with the aim of completing the new pavilion shortly thereafter. This modern facility is anticipated to support the club and community for many years to come, continuing the legacy of Thame Cricket Club as a hub of local sports and community activities.
