Comedian and writer Chris Cantrill will bring his Edinburgh Comedy Award-winning show Rewilding to Oxford next spring, turning rural village life, community suspicion and the felling of a beloved tree into an offbeat comic mystery.
Cantrill will perform at The Glee Club Oxford, based inside The Bullingdon on Cowley Road, on Wednesday 10 March 2027.
The Oxford appearance forms part of a national tour following an 11-performance residency at Soho Theatre in London this winter.

A rural mystery about community and suspicion
Rewilding begins with Cantrill apparently settled into his new identity as a country resident.
He has exchanged city life for whittling, accepting parcels and watching walkers pass through the village. That quiet existence is disturbed when a much-loved local tree is cut down during the night.
The act of vandalism draws Cantrill into a village mystery and exposes tensions beneath the seemingly peaceful community.
The show uses that investigation to explore rural life, neighbourly suspicion, masculinity, justice and the awkward experience of being an outsider trying to belong.
Although the story is presented as a fictional comic mystery, its premise was shaped by Cantrill’s experience of living in the rural borderlands near Sycamore Gap and observing the public and community response to the tree’s destruction.
Rather than offering a factual reconstruction of that case, Cantrill places himself at the centre of an exaggerated village drama in which local WhatsApp groups, amateur investigations and personal grievances become part of the comedy.
The result combines quick jokes with a longer story, allowing the mystery to develop while Cantrill repeatedly questions his own role in events.
The show is directed by Tom Parry, whose work with comedy group Pappy’s and as a solo performer has previously earned an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination.
Winner of the 2026 Edinburgh Comedy Award
Cantrill won the Audible Best Comedy Show prize at the 2026 Edinburgh Comedy Awards following the show’s run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The award was his fourth nomination.
He was previously nominated as one half of The Delightful Sausage with Amy Gledhill in 2019 and 2022, before receiving his first solo nomination for Easily Swayed in 2024.
Easily Swayed introduced audiences to Cantrill’s move from city life to rural Northumberland. Rewilding develops that story, with the comedian now more established in his surroundings but no less uncertain about the customs and characters around him.
The 2026 judging panel selected Rewilding from more than 550 eligible comedy shows at the Fringe.
Early reviews praised Cantrill’s combination of storytelling, self-deprecation and densely packed jokes, with the show receiving recommendations and four and five-star notices from a range of publications.
Who is Chris Cantrill?
Cantrill is a comedian, actor and writer from West Yorkshire.
He is best known as one half of surreal comedy double act The Delightful Sausage alongside Amy Gledhill, who won the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2024.
The pair have appeared on programmes including Question Team, Pointless and Late Night Mash.
Cantrill is also the co-creator and star of BBC Radio 4 comedy Icklewick FM, set inside a dysfunctional fictional community radio station in northern England.
His performance in the programme earned him a BBC Audio Drama Award for Best Comedy Performance.
In 2026, he joined the writing team for the first British version of Saturday Night Live.
His other screen credits include appearances in Alma’s Not Normal, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and Avoidance, while he provided voices for the comedy video game Thank Goodness You’re Here!.
