A brand-new show with guaranteed no new material

The show uses a deliberately contradictory premise: it is a new production built from material Jack Dee has accumulated across 40 years of performing.

Rather than presenting the jokes as a conventional greatest-hits collection, Dee will use favourite routines, stories and anecdotes to construct a comic memoir of his life and career.

Some people associate particular memories with songs. Dee says the jokes he encountered, remembered and eventually performed provide the equivalent soundtrack to his life.

The official promise is simple: “Guaranteed no new material.”

Dee said: “Jack’s Joke Show is a compilation of all my favourite old jokes and where they belong in my life story.

“It’s proved very popular with audiences in London and Edinburgh, and I’m really looking forward to taking it all around the country.”

The 2027 tour follows a run at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe which the promoter says sold out.

Four decades of deadpan comedy

Dee has built a career around dry delivery, pessimistic observations and the impression that performing before a paying audience is a considerable inconvenience.

His television career includes stand-up shows, panel programmes and two sitcoms which he co-wrote and starred in: four series of Lead Balloon for BBC Two and two series of Bad Move for ITV.

Since 2009, he has chaired BBC Radio 4 panel game I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, succeeding Humphrey Lyttelton. He also appears in live touring versions of the programme.

His other television work has included Have I Got News for You, QI, Taskmaster, The Apprentice: You’re Fired and comedy series Josh.

He is the author of the autobiography Thanks for Nothing and the advice book What Is Your Problem?.

Jack’s Joke Show differs from his more conventionally topical tours by looking backwards, examining the material which influenced his comic voice and the routines that have stayed with him.

Oxford tickets go on sale this week

The promoter presale begins at 11am on Thursday 17 September. Access is available through the Off The Kerb priority mailing list.

General booking is due to open at 11am on Friday 18 September.

Oxford Playhouse had not published its own event page when the tour was announced, so the local ticket price, performance time, running time, age guidance and any concessionary offers remain to be confirmed.

Other venues on the tour are advertising strict 14+ entry, likely swearing and adult content, and a running time of approximately 100 minutes. Families should wait for the Oxford Playhouse guidance rather than assuming every venue will apply identical arrangements.

Oxford Playhouse normally adds a £2.75 transaction fee to each main-stage booking rather than to each individual ticket. Some members, access customers and other eligible groups are exempt from that charge.

Once general sales open, tickets should be available through Oxford Playhouse’s What’s On page and Jack Dee’s official tour page.
