A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to burgling homes in Oxford.

Thomas Mobbs, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to three burglary offences at a hearing of Oxford Crown Court on Friday.

Details of the Burglaries

Mobbs was arrested and charged on March 24, following a series of break-ins. On March 23, he smashed the rear patio door of a house on Lonsdale Road, Oxford, and ransacked the entire house, stealing a computer and a substantial amount of jewelry. Among the stolen items were a necklace and a silver box engraved with a picture of the first home the victim shared with her husband and their dog, both of which held significant sentimental value.

Additionally, Mobbs was sentenced for two burglaries on Marston Ferry Road, Oxford. On March 23, he broke into a house by smashing the back door and stole a computer. The following day, he broke into a shed at a different house on the same road, where a witness saw him fleeing the scene.

Police Statement

PC Emilie Tomann, who led the investigation from St Aldates Police station, expressed satisfaction with the sentencing. “While some items from the break-ins have been recovered, jewellery is still missing from the Lonsdale Road property, and the victim is devastated as it has strong sentimental value to her. We would ask anyone who has seen this jewellery, a silver engraved box, or been offered jewellery for sale recently to contact us as a matter of urgency via 101.”

PC Tomann added, “Burglary is a devastating offense with long-term repercussions for victims. I am pleased for the victims and for justice that Mobbs has received a substantial sentence for these crimes.”

Community Appeal

The police continue to appeal to the public for any information regarding the missing items from the Lonsdale Road burglary. The victim remains hopeful that the sentimental items, particularly the necklace and the engraved silver box, will be recovered.
