Two young figure skaters who train at Oxford Ice Rink have struck gold at the British National Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield. Ellie Coley (14) and William Sandelands (15), coached by Richard Beamish, were crowned National Champions after winning the Basic Novice category, a result the rink says reflects “exceptional dedication and hard work”.

Audiences can see the champions at home ice this weekend as the rink stages its festive show Movie Magic on Ice on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December.
Jane De Lange, Ice Skating Co-ordinator for More Leisure Community Trust, which operates Oxford Ice Rink with Serco Leisure, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled for Ellie and William. To see them achieve national success is incredibly rewarding for all of us at the rink. We can’t wait for audiences to see their championship-winning performance in our Movie Magic on Ice show.”
Ellie and William will perform a special routine to music from The Hunger Games as part of a mixed-bill production featuring skaters of all ages and abilities — a family-friendly showcase of Oxford’s skating community.
Cllr Chewe Munkonge, Cabinet Member for a Healthy, Fairer Oxford, added:
“A huge congratulations to Ellie and William on their fantastic win and for representing Oxford on a national stage. If you want to see their talents in person, be sure to get a ticket to Movie Magic on Ice this weekend.”
