The 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship fixtures have been confirmed, with Oxford United to kick their campaign at home to Portsmouth on Saturday 9 August, kicking off at 3:00pm at the Kassam Stadium.

It’s the second successive season that United begin their Championship journey on home turf, and a great opportunity to turn up and support Gary Rowett and the U’s.

Last year’s opener brought a memorable 2–0 win over Norwich City, and this time, it’s a familiar face returning to Oxford, former U’s captain John Mousinho, now in charge of Pompey.

Early Season Challenges

After the opener, the U’s hit the road with back-to-back away fixtures against Hull City and newly-promoted Birmingham City. They then return to home soil to face Coventry City, followed by Leicester City, in matches scheduled either side of the first international break of the season.

Festive Fixtures

The festive period begins with a trip to Charlton Athletic on Saturday 20 December, before returning to Oxford for a traditional Boxing Day clash, this time against Southampton. That’s followed by another home fixture on 29 December versus Swansea City, and the year concludes with a New Year’s Day visit to Ipswich Town.

Run-In and Season Finale

As the season reaches its closing stages, Oxford face a challenging but pivotal run. The final four fixtures begin with a visit to Derby County at Pride Park on 18 April, before hosting Wrexham on 21 April and Sheffield Wednesday on 25 April. The campaign wraps up with an away match at Millwall on Saturday 2 May.

Long Away Trips

February’s away game to Middlesbrough is the furthest distance, with 238 miles up the M1
between the Kassam and Riverside Stadium. Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, and Hull City are the others to watch out for.

New Stadiums to visit

For those fans who love the away day, Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich came down the Premier League, and Birmingham, Charlton Athletic and Wrexham were promoted from League One.

Of that list, the furthest league game back was Southampton on the 4th April 1988, Leicester was 23rd April 1994, and Birmingham 12th December 1998 (lost 7-1 at the Manor Ground!).

Those with good memories will recall the 29th April 2006 1-1 draw at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground.

For this ticking off the 92, this means Southampton’s St Mary’s is the only new ground, as the 1996 league cup game was at the Dell.

Broadcast and Fixture Changes

Please note that while all opening weekend Championship fixtures will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, fixture dates and times are subject to change, particularly due to television scheduling throughout the season. The opening game remains confirmed for a 3:00pm kick-off.
