A new touring production of the acclaimed Miss Saigon has been announced as Oxford’s New Theatre’s Christmas show for the 2025/26 season. This revival, brought by renowned producer Michael Harrison in association with Cameron Mackintosh, will open at Newcastle Theatre Royal in October before coming to Oxford for the holiday season.
To mark the 35th anniversary since Miss Saigon first premiered in London’s West End, this reimagined production will run at Oxford’s New Theatre from Tuesday, 16 December 2025, to Saturday, 3 January 2026. Tickets are expected to go on sale in early 2025, so fans of the classic musical can look forward to securing their seats soon.
A Timeless Story of Love and Sacrifice
Set in the final days of the Vietnam War, Miss Saigon tells the story of Kim, a 17-year-old girl forced to work in a Saigon bar owned by a character known as The Engineer. There, she meets and falls in love with Chris, an American GI. As the city falls, they are separated, and Kim embarks on an epic journey to reunite with him. Unbeknownst to Chris, he has fathered a son, leading to a heart-wrenching tale of survival, love, and sacrifice.
The musical features some of the most beloved songs in theatre, including The Heat is On in Saigon, The Movie in My Mind, Last Night of the World, and The American Dream. This new version promises to deliver these iconic numbers in a fresh and powerful way.

Bringing a Modern Take to a Classic
Of this new production, producer Cameron Mackintosh commented,
“35 years after Boublil and Schönberg’s legendary musical Miss Saigon first opened to international success, I am delighted that this powerful heart-wrenching love story has remained timeless around the world. “The story of two young people – an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl – who fall in love as their lives are torn apart by war, ultimately causing a mother to sacrifice her life for her child has become a worldwide hit, as well as one of the most popular musicals ever in Asian countries, with separate companies regularly playing in Korea, Japan, the Philippines and Singapore.
“The recent hugely successful Sheffield Crucible production took a contemporary look at this great musical and that inspired producer Michael Harrison and I to also take a fresh look at Miss Saigon and create a modern version that can play many theatres that the original was unable to do.”
Michael Harrison said: “It is thrilling to be collaborating with Cameron on a brand-new production of Miss Saigon. Millions of people around the world have been moved by its riveting story, messages of family and enduring love, and by Boublil and Schönberg’s majestic score. I am delighted that we can now bring this story to audiences throughout the country in a brilliant and modern production.”

A Historic Production with Global Acclaim
Since its debut in 1989, Miss Saigon has captivated audiences worldwide, becoming one of the most successful musicals in history. The original Broadway production opened in 1991, running for nearly a decade and attracting over 6.3 million attendees. In 2014, Mackintosh’s latest London production opened to record-breaking advance sales and critical acclaim, followed by a successful UK tour in 2017.
Over the years, Miss Saigon has been performed in 33 countries and 378 cities, translated into 15 languages, and won 75 major awards, including two Olivier Awards, three Tony Awards, and four Drama Desk Awards. It has been seen by over 38 million people worldwide, and its legacy continues to grow with each new production.
