Oxford Operatic Society is back at the Oxford Playhouse with its latest production Evita.
Opening on Monday, January 23 and running until Saturday, January 28, this is the first time the musical has been staged at a major Oxford venue.
Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, Evita charts the meteoric rise to fame of Argentina’s most infamous and divisive First Lady – Eva Peron from her early days in the village of Junín through to her marriage to future President – Juan Peron and accession to “spiritual leader of the nation”.
Originally a concept album, Evita opened in the West End in 1976 winning an Olivier Award and becoming the first British musical to ever win a Tony Award for Best Musical following its Broadway opening in 1978.
Now, in its 116th year, OXOPS bring this powerful production to the Oxford Playhouse featuring some of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most iconic songs including ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’, ‘Oh What a Circus’, ‘Buenos Aires’ and ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’.
Tickets at Oxford Playhouse are priced from £10 and are available from the Box Office on 01865 305305 or book online at www.oxfordplayhouse.com
