Direct from a sell-out run at the Edinburgh International Festival, theatre company 1927 returns to the Oxford stage with its latest production.
The Oxford Playhouse will host Please right back on its Main Stage from Wednesday September 25th to Saturday September 28th.
Known for its innovative approach to theatre, merging animation with live performance, 1927’s production of Golem wowed Oxford audiences in 2017.
The new show follows the story of a family whose father has disappeared. Kim and Davey, the children of Mr E, can only communicate with him through letters, in which his imagination takes over and reality collides with fantasy.
Using a unique combination of handcrafted animation, music and live performance, Please right back is inspired by true events, exploring the difficulties children can go through when a parent leaves the family. With each letter opening up a fantastical world for Mr E’s children. 1927’s production celebrates the wider power of the imagination and how it can be used to make things better in hard times.
Please right back is written by Suzanne Andrade, who also directs alongside Esme Appleton. Paul Barrit has created the show’s film, animation and design, with costume design by Sarah Munro, music and sound design by Laurence Owen, and dramaturgy by Ben Francombe, Shelly Hastings and Andreas Karlaganis.

Please right back is performed by Chardae Phillips, Lara Cowin, Jenny Wills and Stefan Davis, with the recorded voices of Patrick Copley, Finn West, Hazel Bailey, Jude Rushforth, Lettie West and Teddy Hicks.
Founded in 2005, 1927 have performed to over 1.5 million people across 6 continents. Their previous work for the stage includes Roots, Golem, The Magic Flute and The Animals and Children Took to the Streets.
