The stage version of one of Hollywood’s best-known romantic comedies is heading back to Oxford, with Pretty Woman: The Musical returning to New Theatre Oxford for a limited summer run in 2027.
The show will play New Theatre Oxford from Tuesday 10 August to Saturday 14 August 2027, bringing Vivian and Edward back to the city after the musical’s record-breaking West End run and its first sell-out UK tour in 2023. The official tour site confirms Oxford as part of a major new UK run beginning in March 2027, with casting for the 2027 tour still to be announced.
What is Pretty Woman: The Musical about?
Based on the 1990 film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, the stage show follows Vivian and Edward as their unexpected relationship turns into something more complicated and more meaningful than either of them expected. The producers describe it as a chance to revisit the moments audiences know from the film while also seeing the characters in a more theatrical setting, with a score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and a book by the late film director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J.F. Lawton.
What is the show about?
Pretty Woman: The Musical tells the story of Vivian and Edward, two unlikely soulmates who meet by chance in Beverly Hills and find their lives changed by the relationship that follows. The stage version combines familiar moments from the film with original songs, Broadway-style staging and the Roy Orbison classic “Oh, Pretty Woman”.
What Oxford audiences need to know
New Theatre Oxford lists the show as running for 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval. The venue also gives the production an age guidance of 12+ and warns that it contains some moderate sexual references. In Oxford, performances are scheduled for Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with matinees on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2.30pm. The venue says general sale opens on Friday 15 May at 9am, with members’ pre-sale tickets available earlier.
For Oxfordshire audiences, the run lands right in the middle of the summer holidays, which may make it one of the city’s more attractive larger-scale theatre bookings for August 2027.
Why this tour matters
The return tour extends the life of a production that has already had a substantial stage history. The official site says Pretty Woman: The Musical had its world premiere in Chicago in March 2018, later transferred to Broadway, and then opened in the West End at the Piccadilly Theatre in February 2020 before moving to the Savoy Theatre, where it played until June 2023. The first UK and Ireland tour followed later that year.
The 2027 tour also brings together a high-profile creative team. Direction and choreography are by Jerry Mitchell, with scenic design by David Rockwell, costumes by Tom Rogers from original Broadway designs by Gregg Barnes, and music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Will Van Dyke. Direction for the tour is being recreated by Dominic Shaw.
