As far as we are concerned you will be making a ‘Big, huge mistake’ if you miss out on the New Theatre’s latest offering Pretty Woman, as it was epic.
The musical opened last night and was a huge hit with the audience. So much so, as the cast closed the show to the beat of Roy Orbison’s classic tune Oh, Pretty Woman, the audience were on their feet clapping and cheering.
We loved this production, which is currently touring the UK and Ireland for the first time. Pretty Woman is the uplifting Cinderella story of prostitute Vivian who meets billionaire Edward, and her life changes forever.
The first thing to say is, this is not a straight replica of the movie – the original story has been adapted for stage and the writers have done a fabulous job.
There are of course the classic one-liners, that Hollywood Boulevard working girl outfit, the sass, the piano love scene and that wonderful moment when Vivian returns to the clothing store where she was shamed, to tell the shop assistants they had made a “Big, huge mistake”. But there is so much more.

And if you are a looking for that Julia Roberts magic, Amber Davies’ portrayal of Vivian Ward will not disappoint. I think we all fell a little in love with her, and if we are quite honest, Oliver Savile’s Edward Lewis too.
The original score was more a stream of consciousness giving us a real insight into both Vivian and Edward’s feelings as we watched their relationship change from financial transaction to beautiful love story.
We loved the opera scene – that dress, the theatre balcony and oh wow Lila Falce-Bass’ stunning voice – she was mesmerizing. Talking of amazing voices, Annell O’dartey ,who played Kit De Luca, was fabulous.
Final mention goes to Curtis Patrick, who played the hotel manager Mr Thompson, he was great in the role and wow what a dancer!
Despite the bleak reality at the core story, this is a brilliant, uplifting show and we really enjoyed it. If you can get tickets then do go.
