For attendees today at the Kassam for the Oxford United vs Blackburn Rovers match, fans will witness an extraordinary guest during half-time.
Lewis Robinson, affectionately known as “Wild Rover,” is a Blackburn Rovers supporter cycling to every one of his team’s away games this season. His ambitious mission aims to raise £25,000 to build a lodge for young families undergoing cancer treatment, in memory of his friend Josh Riley.
A Journey of Heart and Determination
Lewis’ season-long cycling challenge spans an incredible 3,314 miles, all in support of the Smiley Smiley Josh Riley Foundation, a charity close to his heart. The funds raised will go towards creating a tranquil lodge where families can find respite and support during the demanding process of cancer treatment.
This week, Lewis has taken on his 207-mile journey from Ewood Park to Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium, ahead of todays match against Blackburn Rovers. Alongside him, a support team is documenting his journey on social media, sharing updates and rallying donations.

Oxford United’s Warm Welcome
Oxford United has extended its full support for Lewis’ challenge. The club has invited him to share his story during a special half-time interview at Saturday’s game, introducing his mission to fans. The team has also welcomed Lewis to their hospitality suite, recognising the importance of his cause.
“We have been overwhelmed by Oxford United’s enthusiasm and generosity,” Lewis shared. “It’s amazing to see such unity in support of this vital cause.”
A Personal Mission
Lewis’ motivation comes from his late friend Josh Riley, who tragically lost his battle with cancer in 2015. Determined to honour Josh’s memory, Lewis hopes the lodge will serve as a sanctuary for patients and their families, offering comfort during one of life’s most challenging journeys.
“Cancer treatment is not just physically exhausting, it’s emotionally draining too,” Lewis explains. “This lodge will be a haven where families can rest, rejuvenate, and find solace during such difficult times.”
The Challenges Ahead
Cycling to every Blackburn Rovers away game is no small feat. Lewis faces long distances, unpredictable weather, and darker nights during the winter. Yet, his resolve remains unwavering: “This is a challenge I’m willing to face for my friend and for the families who will benefit from this support.”
