The cult-favourite burger joint, crowned the UK’s Best Burger in 2023, is set to open its fifth restaurant in Oxford this September.

Oxfordshire’s burger scene is about to get a serious upgrade! The Beefy Boys, known for serving some of the world’s best burgers, have excitedly announced the opening of their fifth restaurant at Westgate Oxford.

Following smash-hit openings in Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, and Bath, The Beefy Boys will bring their award-winning burgers and American-style barbecue food to a brand-new crowd, taking over a prime location in the heart of Oxford’s retail district.

Founded by four childhood friends, The Beefy Boys began as a backyard BBQ that “got out of hand” in 2011. What started as a bit of fun soon became serious: after winning Best Burger at Grillstock, they were invited to the World Food Championships in Las Vegas – where they stunned the competition by placing second in the world.

Since then, they’ve grown from local heroes to national favourites, with accolades including:

  • Best Burger and Best Burger Chef at the 2023 National Burger Awards
  • Top 4 finish at the 2024 World Food Championships in Indianapolis
  • A bestselling 2024 cookbook, From Backyard BBQs to World-Class Burgers, which hit #3 on the Sunday Times list

Now they’re bringing their signature smashed patties, indulgent flavours, and high-quality grass-fed Herefordshire beef to Oxford.

What’s on the Menu?

The Oxford location will serve fan favourites including:

  • Oklahoma Onion Boy – award-winning and packed with caramelised flavour
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly Boy – a bold twist for adventurous eaters
  • Dirty Boy, Beanie Boy, and the classic Beefy Boy Burger

Expect all the trimmings, too: truffle-laced Millionaire Fries, gooey Mac & Cheese Balls, Garlic Parmesan Chicken Tenders, and Buffalo & Blue Cheese Wings.

Vegetarian and vegan diners aren’t left out either, with plant-based options like the Leafy Boy burger.

Co-founder Murf said:

“Oxford has always been high up on our list of dream restaurant locations. It’s a city full of culture, energy, and food lovers, so we can’t wait to fire up the grill and introduce our signature smashed patties and dirty burgers to this amazing city.”

From Backyard BBQ to Global Burger Fame

The Beefy Boys story is the stuff of food legend:

  • 2011: Backyard BBQ in Hereford turns into a serious burger obsession
  • 2011: Win Best Burger at Grillstock in Bristol and qualify for the World Food Championships in Las Vegas, where they placed 2nd in the world.
  • 2015: Open first restaurant in Hereford
  • 2015-2023: Open new sites in Shrewsbury, Cheltenham and Bath; win UK Burger Awards

Their secret? Dirty, indulgent burgers, cooked with world-class technique, made from locally sourced ingredients, and always served with a smile.

Despite their success, they’ve stayed true to their roots: sourcing local ingredients, keeping the vibe fun and friendly, and never taking themselves too seriously.

“It’s always been about a good laugh with your mates – and that’s the way we want to keep it,” say the founders.
