Afternoon tea has been given a theatrical twist at Crazy Bear Stadhampton with the launch of a new weekend Afternoon Tea Feast.

The Oxfordshire venue has moved away from the conventional three-tier stand in favour of a more generous, shared-table approach, with sandwiches, warm scones, cakes and patisserie-style treats served as a spread rather than a neat tower.

The new experience is served in the venue’s Residents Lounge, with the option to sit outside when weather and availability allow.

It follows a wider food and drink refresh at Crazy Bear Stadhampton, which has recently introduced new menus, cocktails and refurbished spaces.

What is included in the Afternoon Tea Feast?

Crazy Bear describes the new offering as a “feast of sandwiches, scones, cakes and pâtisserie-style treats”, served with a glass of Prosecco.

The announcement says guests can expect an abundant spread of finger sandwiches, warm scones, homemade macarons, cakes and sweet treats, served on a bespoke wooden feasting table.

The tone is intentionally less formal than a traditional afternoon tea. Rather than counting portions or keeping things dainty, the venue is positioning the experience as a relaxed weekend indulgence for groups, celebrations and leisurely afternoons.

Jen Needham, Marketing Director at Crazy Bear, said: “Our new Afternoon Tea Feast is a sight to behold.

“It’s the latest step in our food and drink revamp and an appetite is essential as this is not a run-of-the-mill, dainty afternoon tea and going for it is encouraged.

“Whether it’s enjoyed in our relaxed residents’ lounge or outside across our gardens, you won’t find better than the Afternoon Tea Feast anywhere else.”

A new use for the Residents Lounge

The Afternoon Tea Feast is centred on Crazy Bear’s Residents Lounge, one of the venue’s refreshed spaces.

The lounge includes snug seating, a vintage vinyl record player and a cocktail trolley, giving the experience more of a laid-back house-party feel than a formal hotel tea room.

Crazy Bear says the feast can also be served outdoors, depending on availability and weather, giving guests the option to enjoy afternoon tea in the gardens.

The Stadhampton venue is known for its distinctive interiors, 16th-century pub, gardens and eclectic spaces for eating, drinking and private events.

When can people book?

The Afternoon Tea Feast is served from 2pm to 5pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

It is priced at £40 per person and includes a glass of Prosecco.

Booking is recommended, although walk-ins may be accommodated where possible. Crazy Bear also advises guests to check availability, as private events such as weddings, birthdays and anniversaries may affect bookings.

Why it may appeal locally

Afternoon tea remains a popular choice for birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings and weekend treats, but many venues still follow the familiar pattern of sandwiches, scones and cakes on a traditional stand.

Crazy Bear’s version is aimed at people looking for something less restrained and more sociable, particularly for groups who want an occasion rather than a quick stop for tea and cake.

Its Stadhampton location also gives it a strong Oxfordshire day-out appeal, sitting between Oxford, Wallingford, Thame and Henley, and close to several villages in South Oxfordshire.

For visitors already familiar with Crazy Bear’s more theatrical style, the Afternoon Tea Feast fits the venue’s wider approach: bold interiors, indulgent food and a setting designed to feel different from a standard country pub or hotel restaurant.

Part of a wider refresh at Crazy Bear

The launch follows a recent relaunch at Crazy Bear Stadhampton, with the venue introducing a refreshed menu, hedgerow cocktail range and updated spaces.

The relaunch event brought hundreds of guests to the venue, with entertainment including The Cuban Brothers, Latin dancers Ksenia Zsikhotska and Krystof Grzelak, and comedian and presenter Matt Richardson.

The new afternoon tea concept is the latest addition to that programme, giving weekend visitors another reason to book beyond lunch, dinner, cocktails or private events.
