Poster for WCB Comedy in Abingdon on 6 June, headlined by Ed Byrne, with Mike Gunn, Ingrid Dahle and Justin Panks.

Comedy fans in Abingdon can expect a strong night of stand-up this summer as Ed Byrne heads a four-act bill at The Amey Theatre on Saturday 6 June 2026.

The show is being staged by WCB Comedy, the independent promoter behind a growing run of comedy nights featuring established names from British television and the live circuit.

This will be WCB Comedy’s first event in Abingdon, and organisers are bringing in a line-up led by one of the UK’s best-known comics.

This is a rare comedy event in Abingdon, and WCB Comedy’s first ever in the area. I’m genuinely a huge fan of Ed Byrne and saw his brilliant previous tours of Tragedy Plus Time and If I’m Honest…

Who is Ed Byrne?

Ed Byrne is one of the most recognisable names in British stand-up. He has appeared on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You and QI, as well as a range of BBC radio programmes.

Known for his observational material, quick delivery and polished storytelling, Byrne has been performing internationally for more than 25 years and remains a major draw on the UK comedy circuit.

For audiences in Abingdon, this is a chance to see a comedian more often associated with large theatres and national tours in a local venue setting.

What the promoter says

Paul Dunn of WCB Comedy said:

“Shows like this are all about giving audiences a proper night out, four great comedians, a packed theatre and a fantastic atmosphere. We’re delighted to be bringing someone of Ed Byrne’s calibre to Abingdon.”

WCB Comedy says its shows have built a loyal following elsewhere through repeat bookings and word of mouth, and the Abingdon date marks its first step into the town.

Why this is one to book early

Ed Byrne is the name most people will know, but the wider bill suggests this has been put together as a proper full evening rather than a single-headliner event.

Mike Gunn brings the kind of experience usually strong enough to top a bill in his own right, while Ingrid Dahle adds newer energy to the line-up. With Justin Panks hosting, the show looks designed to deliver a smooth, fast-moving club-style night in a theatre setting.

For Abingdon, it is also notable because it brings a touring stand-up format into the town through a promoter with a track record of selling out elsewhere.

A useful night out guide for Abingdon audiences

If you are planning to go, it is worth arriving in good time. Doors open an hour before the show, which should give audiences time to get seated before the 8pm start.

As the event is expected to finish at around 10.10pm, it should suit anyone looking for a full evening out without a very late finish.

Because this is the promoter’s first Abingdon date and the bill includes a television name in Ed Byrne, early booking is likely to be sensible.
