The iconic feel-good musical, MAMMA MIA!, is set to embark on a brand-new UK tour in 2025, with its first venues now announced, including a two week run at the New Theatre Oxford 25th November to 6th December 2025. And general tickets go on sale tomorrow!
The tour will kick off at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton in October, before heading to Bristol, Oxford, and Edinburgh. More locations are expected to be announced soon, giving fans across the UK the chance to relive the magic of this global phenomenon.
MAMMA MIA! is the brainchild of Judy Craymer, whose vision brought ABBA’s timeless music to life in a vibrant, fun-filled narrative. Set on a picturesque Greek island, the musical follows a mother, daughter, and three possible fathers, all tied together by ABBA’s chart-topping hits. Since its debut, the show has been a massive hit with audiences of all ages, captivating theatre-goers with its heartfelt story and infectious energy.
Having celebrated its 26th year in 2024, MAMMA MIA! has enjoyed immense success globally. It has attracted over 11 million spectators in London’s West End, with more than 10,000 performances staged. On the MAMMA MIA! International Tour, the show has reached 42 countries, with over 7.3 million people attending more than 3,750 shows. The production even broke Broadway records, with a 14-year run that established it as the 8th longest-running show in Broadway history. MAMMA MIA! also made history as the first Western musical staged in Mandarin in China.
The show’s success extended to the silver screen, with MAMMA MIA! The Movie breaking box office records as the highest-grossing live-action musical film upon its release in 2008. The sequel, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN, followed in 2018, achieving remarkable success as the most successful live musical movie sequel ever.
Judy Craymer, the musical’s creator and producer, expressed her excitement about the tour, stating: “It’s fabulous that MAMMA MIA! will be returning to Southampton, Bristol, Oxford, and Edinburgh. The musical features music and lyrics by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The production boasts top-tier design from Mark Thompson (set and costumes), Howard Harrison (lighting), and Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken (sound). Martin Koch provides musical supervision and arrangements.
