With just two weeks to go, Oxford residents, local businesses and community groups are being urged to share their views on the first draft of the Oxford Local Plan 2042, the key blueprint for how the city will grow, develop and adapt over the next two decades.
The consultation, which runs until Friday 8th August, will help decide where new homes, jobs and green spaces go, and how Oxford tackles major issues such as the housing crisis, climate change, inequality and economic resilience.
What Is the Oxford Local Plan 2042?
The Oxford Local Plan 2042 will guide all major planning decisions in the city for the next 20 years. It outlines a vision for a fairer, greener and more inclusive Oxford — and now is your chance to help shape it.
What the Plan Proposes:
Highlights from the draft plan include:
- 40% affordable housing in developments of 10+ homes, prioritising social rent
- Affordable workspaces and support for local employment in large developments
- More flexibility for neighbourhood centres, allowing communities to grow
- All new buildings to be net zero carbon in operation from day one
- Mandatory inclusion of trees, hedges, and biodiversity features in developments
- Protection for Oxford’s historic buildings and heritage assets
- Review of low-value Green Belt sites as potential future development areas
Interactive maps of proposed sites and “areas of focus” are included in the consultation.
