Oxford Bus Company is set to support this weekend’s British Transplant Games by providing a free shuttle bus service for participants.
The Olympic-style multi-sport event, celebrating the life-changing gift of organ donation, will take place in Oxford from Friday, drawing athletes from across the UK, ranging in age from three to over 80.
The Games are organised by charity Transplant Active and bring together transplant recipients to compete, raise awareness, and show what’s possible after receiving the gift of life.
To support the event, Oxford Bus Company will operate complimentary shuttle services linking key venues:
- Friday: Between Oxford (via Westgate and High Street) and Bradmoor Farm
- Friday & Saturday: Between White Horse Leisure Centre and Tilsley Park
Participants are encouraged to use Oxford’s Park & Ride sites, where they can conveniently connect to the shuttle services.
Luke Marion, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director said:
“It is a pleasure to be able to be able to provide support to those taking part in the British Transplant Games.
“The shuttle bus service will help people travel to and from the event sustainably, and reduce congestion in the area
As a community spirited company we understand how important the event is to so many people and felt it is important to give back and help, as well as helping to raise awareness of what organ transplants can achieve, and encouraging people to sign the organ donor register.
“We’re also proud to say one of our colleagues, who successfully underwent a double lung transplant is actively taking part in the games as a participating athlete and we wish them, along with everyone else competing all the best.”
Dr. Paul Harden, Chairman, Transplant Active added:
“The free shuttle services between our two busiest venues and our most distant, for the Games, is a great benefit to our competitors and supporters and to the environment. Our thanks to the Oxford Bus Company for entering into the community spirit of this event and supporting organ donation and the Games.”
The British Transplant Games have been held annually since 1978 and now include teams from over 60 UK hospitals. Oxford last played host in 2022, when the city welcomed the European Transplant Games.
