The Red Lion in Adderbury has reopened following a six-figure refurbishment of its bar, dining areas, hotel rooms and outdoor spaces.

The Greene King coaching inn, overlooking the village green near Banbury, has undergone work inside and out. The company says the changes were designed to retain the historic building’s character while updating its furnishings and facilities.

What has changed at the Red Lion?

The refurbishment includes new décor, flooring, furnishings and lighting in the bar, dining areas and bedrooms. The toilets have also been renovated.

Outside, the work has included refreshed planting, lighting, decoration and signage. Greene King says the interior changes were chosen to complement the inn’s existing architectural features rather than replace its traditional appearance.

Daniel Anderson, general manager of the Red Lion, said:

“There have been some carefully planned works to make this wonderful inn even better and cosier. For hundreds of years, it has been a place where locals and travellers have rested and refreshed and that’s exactly what we still do today.”

He said the team was looking forward to welcoming regular customers, neighbours and visitors back to the pub.

Greene King dates the inn’s origins to 1605. Its hotel continues the building’s role as a stopping place for travellers, with 13 en-suite bedrooms alongside the pub and restaurant.
