Stagecoach says offer is a gesture of thanks
Martin Gibbon, Managing Director of Stagecoach West, said the free travel was intended to make it easier for members of the Armed Forces community to join local events.
He said: “Our Armed Forces have given so much to protect our country, and offering free travel over this weekend is just a small gesture of our immense gratitude.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for our service people, past and present, to attend local events and celebrate with their communities.
“Through our Veterans Network, we are dedicated to ensuring Stagecoach remains a deeply supportive environment for the military community, both as passengers and as valued colleagues.”
Support for veterans within Stagecoach
The travel initiative forms part of Stagecoach’s wider work with serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families.
The company has been a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant since March 2015. The covenant recognises the contribution made by serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families, while encouraging organisations to treat members of the Armed Forces community fairly.
Stagecoach also operates a colleague-led Veterans Network, which gives veterans and members of service families working within the company a way to connect, raise awareness and influence workplace decisions.
In 2024, Stagecoach received a Gold Award through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme for its support of the Armed Forces community.
The operator says it also provides free travel to military personnel and veterans on Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday each year.
