Stonor Park’s Great Antique and Vintage Car Boot Fair will return on Sunday 9 August, bringing furniture, artwork, homeware, garden pieces, curiosities and collectables to the historic Oxfordshire estate.

Organisers expect more than 150 sellers, making the event considerably more focused than a conventional neighbourhood car boot sale.

The emphasis is on antique, vintage and collectable items rather than modern household clearance, giving visitors the chance to search for pieces with age, character or an unusual story.

The fair will take place within Stonor’s parkland near Henley-on-Thames, with early entry available for serious bargain hunters before the general opening at 10am.

What visitors may find at the fair

No two stalls will be exactly alike, but Stonor says sellers are expected to bring a broad selection of antique and vintage pieces.

That could include furniture, decorative homeware, garden ornaments, artwork, ceramics, glassware, jewellery, books, textiles, records, tools and smaller collectables.

The format gives buyers a chance to speak directly to sellers, ask about an item’s background and negotiate where appropriate.

As with any car boot fair, stock will depend on what arrives on the day. Visitors looking for the widest choice may prefer the 9am early-bird entry, while the cheaper standard ticket will suit those planning a more relaxed browse from 10am.

Families should note that the £12 combined ticket is listed for visitors aged five and over. Anyone bringing a child aged three or four and planning to use Tumblestone Hollow should check the live booking system for the correct admission arrangement.

The combined ticket does not include Stonor House. The house is due to be open on the day, but separate admission is required.

Live music and food throughout the day

The fair will also include live music from Je’Zell, adding to the relaxed summer atmosphere as visitors move between the stalls.

Food and drink will be available from Stonor and visiting vendors, with the current programme listing gourmet beef burgers, freshly made bacon rolls, churros and Italian gelato.

Visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic and use the estate’s designated picnic areas, although food brought from home cannot be eaten inside Stonor’s cafés.

There is no cash machine on the estate. Stonor’s own outlets accept major credit and debit cards, excluding American Express, but payment arrangements may vary between individual sellers, so buyers should plan ahead.

Making a full family day of it

The car boot fair can be combined with other parts of the Stonor estate, making it a practical option for groups whose interests go beyond antiques.

Tumblestone Hollow, Stonor’s woodland adventure playground, will be open with its towers, bridges, tunnels, slides, climbing areas and water play.

Camp Tumblestone is also running during the school holidays, adding giant Connect 4, Jenga, ball-run games, an agility course and a teepee play area to the usual adventure playground.

The Stonor Gardens will be open for visitors who choose the combined ticket, while Stonor House can be visited with separate admission.

The mix may suit multi-generational groups, allowing some visitors to spend longer browsing the fair while younger members of the family use the playground.

Seller pitches are still available

People with suitable antique, vintage or collectable items can also take part as sellers.

Stonor is inviting people to search attics, garages and sheds for pieces that may appeal to collectors or visitors furnishing their homes and gardens.

This is not being presented as a general modern bric-a-brac sale, so prospective sellers should make sure their stock fits the antique and vintage focus before booking.

Sellers can enter from 8am and should reserve a pitch through Stonor Park before travelling.

Louisa Fifield, general manager at Stonor Park, said the event was intended to appeal both to established collectors and people bringing their own pieces to sell.

She said: “Whether you’d like to come along and browse the collections we’ll have available on the day or if you’d like to participate and bring along your own items to sell, we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our popular car boot fair.”

Getting to Stonor Park

Stonor Park is on the B480 between Henley-on-Thames and Watlington, close to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border.

The estate is around ten minutes north of Henley and approximately 40 minutes from Oxford by car, depending on traffic.

Drivers approaching from the east on the M40 are advised by Stonor to leave at Junction 6. The venue warns that following sat nav directions to Junctions 4 or 5 can add significant time to the journey.
