Taylors, Oxford’s gourmet sandwich and deli company, has announced plans to open a new flagship café at Oxford North, the city’s recently launched innovation district.
The new site, Taylors Oxford North, is due to open on Monday 2 March 2026 and will be located on the ground floor of The Red Hall — Oxford North’s hub for science and innovation start-ups and SMEs.
The café will seat around 80 people, with indoor and outdoor areas looking out over Fallaize Park, a two-acre landscaped public space, and Olafur Eliasson’s illuminated Your planetary assembly sculptures.
Alongside Taylors’ menu of sandwiches, salads, freshly made pasta, deli items and speciality coffee, the company said it will also offer catering for meetings and events in the district.
Initial opening hours are expected to be Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 3pm, with plans to extend opening times as Oxford North grows.
The Oxford North opening will be Taylors’ ninth location across the city and will take its locally employed team to more than 100 people, the company said.
Juri Vahala, chief executive officer at Taylors, said:
“In what is our fourth decade of operating, we’re thrilled to be bringing Taylors to Oxford North. This will be our ninth café and a flagship for our brand with stunning interiors and welcoming views. Oxford North is an exciting new place that aligns perfectly with our commitment to community, sustainability, and great coffee and food. We can’t wait to welcome our new customers when we open.”
Simon Ruck, managing director at Oxford North, said the district aimed to work with local businesses and described Taylors joining as its café operator as “great news”.
“We have shared values in relation to quality, value, exceptional service and community,” he said. “Taylors’ focus on local sourcing and creating welcoming spaces… will add real vibrancy to the new district and be a benefit for the companies based here as well as those people living locally and visiting.”
Fit-out work is now underway ahead of the March opening.
Oxford North is being delivered by Oxford North Ventures, a joint venture between Thomas White Oxford (the development company of St John’s College), Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and Stanhope.
Within The Red Hall, around 2,500 sq ft of flexible retail space will also be available, with options for one, two or three units. Oxford North said it is exploring additional leisure and recreational uses in future phases, including within the proposed hotel, alongside further ground-floor retail.
