The Blyton Brothers: Inspiration in Action

This year, the spotlight is on Zac and Leo Blyton, two inspiring brothers from Bicester who are no strangers to the Oxford Children’s Hospital. Their story embodies the very essence of the OX5 RUN.

At just seven years old, Zac was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt lymphoma, a fast-growing cancer affecting his bowel. After enduring gruelling chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, and blood transfusions, Zac emerged resilient, supported every step of the way by the incredible hospital staff.

During his recovery in 2020, Zac undertook an extraordinary fundraiser; hopping on a pogo stick to raise an astonishing £6,000 for the hospital. Now aged 12 and officially discharged from yearly check-ups, Zac will join this year’s run as a celebration of his remission.

Meanwhile, Zac’s older brother Leo, now 13, made history last year as the youngest-ever winner of the OX5 RUN, finishing in just 30 minutes and 39 seconds. Leo is back this year to defend his title, fresh from becoming the U15 Oxfordshire Cross Country Champion.

The Blyton family; Zac, Leo, their dad Nick, and even their dog Pebble, will be running alongside long-time supporters, including members of the Beth’s Bees Team.

“We’re running to say thank you to the incredible staff who cared for Zac and to support other children and families whose lives have been touched by the Oxford Children’s Hospital,” says their mum, Jenni.
