Blenheim Palace near Woodstock combines historic interiors, gardens and around 2,000 acres of parkland. The Oxfordshire landmark is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.
A visit can focus on the palace and its collections, a walk around the gardens or family attractions in the Walled Garden. These do not all have the same admission requirements, so choosing the right ticket matters.
A brief history of Blenheim Palace
Built between 1705 and 1722, Blenheim was presented by the English nation to John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough, following his victory over French and Bavarian troops at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. John Vanbrugh and Nicholas Hawksmoor were the architects. UNESCO’s listing recognises both the palace and its landscaped setting.
The palace remains associated with the Marlborough family. Winston Churchill was born here on 30 November 1874. He proposed to Clementine Hozier at the Temple of Diana in the grounds in 1908.
Interiors, exhibitions and restoration
The state rooms contain paintings, tapestries and family collections. The Long Library holds more than 10,000 books and a pipe organ, while the Great Hall’s ceiling painting by James Thornhill celebrates the first Duke of Marlborough.
The roof restoration project can affect the visitor route and which rooms are accessible. The palace’s current visitor notice directs entry through the Churchill Exhibition. Check arrangements on the day rather than assuming every room will be open.
The Family Treasures Collection, included with an Annual Pass, provides access to selected rooms on the private side. This is distinct from the separately bookable Duke’s Tour, advertised at an additional £8 for adults and £7 for children, with a valid admission ticket or pass required. That tour includes stairs; confirm availability and access needs before booking.

The rooftop viewing platform was part of the restoration experience. Its appearance in an older photograph does not guarantee that it will be available on your visit. Follow the current restoration and visitor information for access restrictions.
Gardens and parkland
Lancelot “Capability” Brown shaped the lakes and naturalistic parkland. The formal Water Terraces and private Italian Garden were designed later by Achille Duchêne: they should not all be attributed to Brown.
Highlights include the Secret Garden, Churchill Memorial Garden, Water Terraces and views of the Grand Bridge. The official gardens guide explains that the private Italian Garden can be viewed from the path beside the South Lawn; it is not an unrestricted public garden.
Use the marked walking routes and observe closures. The Column of Victory is a landmark to view from the park; this guide does not recommend climbing it. Public rights of way should not be confused with unrestricted access to ticketed gardens or permission to remain after visitor closing time.
Blenheim Palace tickets and passes
These published admission prices were checked on 16 October 2026. Each price group below is adult / child / family. Check the booking conditions for age limits and family composition.
| Ticket | Online | On site |
|---|---|---|
| Park & Gardens day ticket | £31 / £15 / £85 | £34 / £18 / £91 |
| Palace, Park & Gardens pass | £41 / £24 / £110 | £44 / £27 / £116 |
| Palace, Park & Gardens + Adventure Play | £51 / £41 / £165 | £54 / £44 / £171 |
The two palace pass options advertise 12 months’ entry; the Park & Gardens day ticket does not. Adventure Play is included only with the appropriate product or a separately purchased add-on. An Adventure Play day add-on is not valid without main admission.
Some events have separate tickets and parking charges. An annual pass is not a blanket ticket to every concert, seasonal trail or third-party event. Blenheim recommends booking online before arrival; promotions cannot be added retrospectively.
Green-travel discount
The GREEN20 offer provides 20% off eligible online tickets for arrival by public transport, bicycle or fully electric car. Eligible products include the Palace, Park & Gardens ticket or Annual Pass and Palace & Play Pass; Park & Gardens-only day tickets and Privilege Passes are excluded.
Apply the code when buying and bring evidence of your qualifying travel. The offer is excluded during the Christmas period, 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Check the offer conditions for your date and product.
Opening times and getting there
The opening-times page currently lists the park as open daily from 9am to 6pm. Palace rooms, gardens, shops, catering and Adventure Play have their own hours, which can change with the season or events. This replaces the earlier advice to assume the car park opens at about 10am.
Visitor directions: Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire, OX20 1UL. Use that postcode for satnav and follow the entrance instructions for your booking.
The palace is off the A44, about eight miles north-west of Oxford. Standard admission includes parking, but selected events, including Christmas, charge separately. The official travel page gives current arrival advice.
Stagecoach S3 and S7 buses serve Woodstock from Oxford. Rail options include Hanborough, Oxford and Oxford Parkway, with onward travel required. Check the live rail and bus timetables rather than assuming that a connection or taxi will be available when you arrive.
Food, facilities and accessibility
Eating options include the Orangery, Stables Café and Oxfordshire Pantry. Check their opening hours and book ahead for restaurant dining. The palace has announced temporary Christmas-dressing closures for the Orangery on 9–12 November and Stables on 8–12 November 2026.
The accessibility guide describes step-free access to many areas, accessible parking and facilities, while warning of uneven garden surfaces. Some tours include stairs. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are limited and should be reserved at least 24 hours ahead through customer services.
The published policy allows a free companion ticket for a Blue Badge holder on ordinary visits; tell staff at the gates. Special events can have separate booking arrangements. Contact customer services before travelling if you need a different form of support or confirmation that a route is suitable.

Events, films and family attractions
Blenheim’s programme has included the Flower Show, Nocturne Live, horse trials and Christmas events. Check the current events calendar for dates, inclusions and separate booking requirements, rather than assuming last year’s schedule applies.
The palace’s filming record includes Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Spectre, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Cinderella (2021), Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and Napoleon (2023). Our film-trail report gives more background.
Family attractions include the Marlborough Maze, Butterfly House and Adventure Play in the Walled Garden. Check the admission required for each, and the current activity programme. Leave time for walking between different parts of the site.

Conservation and energy
Blenheim’s current sustainability statement describes a goal of carbon neutrality across its operations by 2027, covering direct emissions, purchased energy and its wider value chain. It also sets a longer-term carbon-removal target. These are stated aims, not evidence that the estate has already achieved carbon neutrality.
The estate says Weaveley Solar Farm began operating in May 2025 and made it a net generator of green energy. That energy-generation milestone is distinct from the broader emissions target, replacing this article’s earlier unsupported “carbon positive by 2030” wording.
