A free Shaun the Sheep augmented reality trail is coming to Westgate Oxford next month, alongside clay-modelling workshops and other family activities during the May half-term break.

Westgate Oxford says the Shaun the Sheep: Fun with the Flock trail will run from Friday 1 May to Sunday 31 May, giving families the chance to follow an augmented reality route around the city-centre shopping destination. The centre’s official social posts say visitors will be able to scan nine markers around Westgate to unlock animated scenes and challenges, with the trail map available from Guest Services next to JD Sports.

How the Shaun the Sheep trail works

To take part, visitors will need to download the Fun with the Flock app and enter the location code 2410, which Westgate has shared on its official social channels. Westgate’s posts also say families can pick up a free Shaun the Sheep headband, complete the trail across the centre, and collect a sticker prize at the end. Adults who sign up to PLUS+, Westgate’s free rewards programme, will also be entered into a draw to win a £100 John Lewis gift card, according to the centre’s announcement.

Clay-modelling workshops planned for half term

Westgate has also announced official Aardman clay-modelling workshops on Tuesday 26 May and Wednesday 27 May, falling in the middle of Oxfordshire’s late spring half-term week, which runs from Monday 25 May to Friday 29 May 2026 for many county schools. Westgate says PLUS+ members will get first access to workshop tickets, while free Shaun the Sheep colouring sheets will be available from Guest Services each weekend during the trail.

Why Shaun the Sheep is such a strong family draw

Shaun remains one of Aardman’s best-known characters. The Bristol animation studio says Shaun’s television adventures are enjoyed in more than 170 territories worldwide, that the franchise has run across seven series, and that a third Shaun the Sheep film is due in 2026. Aardman also offers its own hands-on model-making workshops, helping explain why the character is such a natural fit for an interactive family event.

A free family event in the city centre

For Oxford families, the appeal is straightforward: the trail is free, city-centre based and runs for the whole of May, making it a useful option both during weekends and over half term. Westgate Oxford, on Queen Street in central Oxford, is already marketed as a family-friendly destination with retail, dining and play spaces, and the Shaun event adds another child-focused reason to visit.
