Blenheim Palace has unveiled a new visitor experience for autumn, offering the public the chance to explore areas of its 10,000-acre estate that are rarely seen.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site in Woodstock will run Estate Tractor & Trailer Tours on selected weekends from Saturday 6 September until the end of October, with four departures each day at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Tickets are priced at £5 per person (under-3s free) and must be purchased in addition to a valid Day Ticket or Annual Pass. Each tour seats up to 30 passengers, with tickets available online or on site subject to availability.

Tours will not operate on 20–21 September during the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, or on 4 October due to a private event.

Exploring the Estate Beyond the Palace

The 45-minute open-air rides set off from the Flagstaff Gate and follow a route through sweeping parkland, woodlands and historic landmarks.

Highlights include:

  • The Cedar of Lebanon, made famous as the “Harry Potter tree” in Order of the Phoenix.
  • The Ancient and Veteran Oaks of High Park, some more than 900 years old.
  • Bladon Bridge, linking the estate to the village where Sir Winston Churchill is buried.
  • Capability Brown’s world-renowned landscape design, seen at its most colourful in autumn.

Rachel Furness-Smith, Head of Estates at Blenheim Palace, said:

What most visitors don’t realise is that beyond the Palace, its grounds and Formal Gardens, our total Estate extends a further 10,000 acres. These tractor tours are the perfect opportunity to explore a little off the beaten path, and find out more about our history, parkland, incredible wildlife and the stunning countryside that surrounds us.

Heritage, Wildlife and Autumn Scenery

As well as historic features, guides will point out conservation projects across the estate, including biodiversity schemes, woodland management, and waterway restoration along the River Glyme. Visitors may also spot fallow deer, red kites, herons and other wildlife thriving within the estate.

With the Capability Brown landscape now shifting into rich autumn colours, the tractor rides offer a seasonal perspective for families, couples and groups looking for a different kind of day out.

Local tourism leaders say initiatives like this provide a wider choice of experiences for residents and tourists alike, strengthening the county’s reputation as a year-round destination.
