The Museum of Oxford (MOX) has officially launched its exciting new season of guided city history walks, running throughout spring and summer 2025. Featuring quirky tales, hidden histories, and a handful of brand new themed tours, the programme offers a fresh perspective on the city for both visitors and locals alike.

Running on selected Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to September, the walks are led by expert local historians and researchers, revealing often-overlooked corners of Oxford’s past, from radical uprisings and LGBTQIA+ heritage to food history and forgotten retail landmarks.

New for 2025: Celebrating 50 Years of MOX

To mark the Museum’s 50th anniversary, three newly curated walks have been added to the lineup:

  • Oxford’s Queer History – A compelling exploration of LGBTQIA+ stories in Oxford, from student societies and activism to legendary venues and personal histories.
  • Shakespeare and Oxford – A dramatic tour through Elizabethan and Jacobean Oxford, revealing its connections to the Bard and including exclusive access to a Tudor painted bedroom.
  • The Lost Shops of Oxford – A nostalgic walk down memory lane exploring former shops and shopping streets of the city centre through the decades.

Returning Favourites: Alternative Oxford Uncovered
