Students, parents, carers and staff at Faringdon Community College have donated hundreds of Christmas treats and essentials for the school’s annual hamper and shoebox appeal, supporting families in Faringdon and people without permanent homes in Swindon.
Hamper donations included cakes, mince pies, boxes of chocolates and savoury items to help families make meals and snacks over the holiday period. The shoeboxes were packed with winter warmers such as socks, gloves and hats, along with toiletries.
Jill Fisher, a member of the SEN team who organised the collection, said:
“To see that families have given so much, despite the financial pressure that the season brings, is very moving. I would like to give special thanks to Grove Laurette who made a very generous donation when they heard about our appeal.”
Headteacher Lisa Barker added:
“We are very pleased to be able to play our part as a school in supporting our local community. The donations we’ve received truly showcase the incredible sense of community we share.”
Faringdon Community College is a popular, successful 11–18 mixed comprehensive on the edge of Faringdon, with more than 1,400 students. The appeal is part of the school’s ongoing community work to support local families and vulnerable people during the winter months.
