With Halloween and Bonfire Night out of the way, it’s officially time to embrace the festive season, and Blenheim Palace has set the bar high with its spectacular 2024 ‘Christmas at Blenheim Palace’ event. From dazzling light trails to a magical Peter Pan adventure inside the palace, and an enchanting Christmas Market, this event truly encapsulates the magic of the holidays.
A Magical Preview of Christmas at Blenheim Palace
With a soft opening on Thursday, we were invited for a taste of what was to come – and what a truly wonderful time we had – we left ready to dive into the loft, get the Christmas tree set up and start enjoying the festive season.
If the preview was anything to go by, this year’s event promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. The historic palace and its grounds have been reimagined into a wonderland of lights, immersive experiences, and festive charm.
The palace and grounds have been transformed into a magical sea of light and sparkle, with its dazzling outdoor lights trail, it’s fantastic Neverland adventure inside the palace; while The Great Skate and Christmas Market have been set up in the Great Court. There are also traditional fair rides, including a big wheel, in the courtyard area. It’s a real feast for the senses.

The Illuminated Light Trail: A Walk Through Magic
Blenheim’s renowned Illuminated Light Trail is back, and it’s more spectacular than ever. Winding through the Palace’s gardens, this dazzling experience features twinkling lights, vibrant projections, and festive soundscapes. Highlights include:
- A breath-taking water and light display on the lake.
- Marshmallow toasting stations.
- The enchanting sight of Santa riding his sleigh, projected onto the trees.
- A magical meeting with Father Christmas himself near the end of the trail.
The pathway was gravel but really solid – so no issues for anyone with buggies, wheelchairs or scooters. There were so many light installations along the trail, something different to see with each corner you rounded. We loved the water and light display on the lake, which included marshmallow toasting facilities!
Watch out for the projection of Santa riding his Sleigh on the trees across the lake – that was super cool. There was a surprise near the end of the trail because you get to meet the big man himself. This trail can be done at a leisurely pace – we easily did 10,000 steps so you can definitely walk off those mince pies.

Explore Neverland Inside the Palace
Blenheim’s state rooms have made way for Peter Pan and his adventures with Tinker Bell in Neverland. From crocodiles, mermaids, swimming fish to Captain Hook, a pirate ship and a giant organ, the house is like a fairyland.
The palace’s attention to detail makes this adventure perfect for all ages, with every corner offering a new delight to behold. It was a magical experience with so much to see, and also supports a great cause, with £1 from each ticket going to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
New for 2024: The Great Skate
This year sees the introduction of The Great Skate, a covered ice rink located in the Palace’s Great Court. With the majestic backdrop of Blenheim, visitors can glide across the ice, enjoy rink-side seating, and indulge in seasonal treats like hot chocolate. This addition is sure to be a hit with families and couples alike.

A Festive Wonderland: The Christmas Market
Set against the grandeur of Blenheim Palace, the Christmas Market was wonderful to browse with lots of different stalls selling gifts, food, (delicious) cheese, Christmas ornaments, an assortment of alcoholic and sweet treats. You could buy all kinds of food and festive hot or cold drinks (we enjoyed hot chocolate with a shot of Bailys Irish Cream).
Discover wooden chalets brimming with artisan crafts, festive decorations, and a range of gourmet food and drink options. From handcrafted ornaments to local cheeses and mulled wine, the market is perfect for finding unique gifts or enjoying seasonal delicacies.
More Festive Fun
For those seeking even more festive cheer, there are traditional fair rides, including a big wheel, to entertain children and adults alike. The courtyard area is alive with the sounds and sights of Christmas, making it an ideal setting for creating unforgettable holiday memories.
