At an age when many might slow down, Eileen Williams is lacing up her running shoes once again. The North Oxford resident, who celebrates her 80th birthday today, is set to take part in the OX5 RUN at Blenheim Palace on Sunday 23rd March 2025, an event she has been dedicated to since 2008.
Her involvement in the Oxford Hospitals Charity is nothing short of inspiring. Over the years, Eileen has not only participated in the OX5 RUN multiple times but has also taken on the Great Big Hospital Abseil Challenge, all in the name of supporting Oxfordshire’s hospitals.
A Life of Care and Commitment
Eileen’s passion for the Oxford Hospitals Charity is deeply personal. Having worked as a Community Health Visitor in Kidlington for 36 years, as well as a Health Visitor Teacher at Brookes University, she has spent her career caring for babies and young children. Her commitment to supporting hospital services for the community continues in retirement, through both fundraising and personal fitness challenges.
Despite turning 80, Eileen is a true advocate for an active lifestyle. She keeps fit by jogging regularly and hitting the gym each week, always accompanied by her loyal running companion, Buddy the springer spaniel.
Running for a Cause
The OX5 RUN holds a special place in Eileen’s heart. Describing the event, she said:
“It’s such a lovely event, and the atmosphere at Blenheim Palace is fantastic!”
This year, she will be joined by her daughter-in-law, Dimitra, who will be walking the course, while Eileen and Buddy jog the scenic five-mile route.
To encourage more supporters to get involved, Eileen has even displayed a personalised event poster in her local Kidlington supermarket, featuring a photo from last year’s run.
Lorna Eaton, Supporter Care Officer at Oxford Hospitals Charity, praised Eileen’s enthusiasm:
“Eileen is such an inspiration—her energy and enthusiasm is infectious! We wish her the happiest of birthdays.”
