Acclaimed comedian Stewart Lee is bringing his brand-new show, Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf, to the Oxford Playhouse for a six-night run from Monday, 3rd February to Saturday, 8th February 2025. This highly anticipated performance promises a blend of Lee’s razor-sharp wit and a surreal twist, making it a must-see event for fans of intelligent and unconventional comedy.

About Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf

Following the success of his previous show, Basic Lee, which enjoyed a sold-out run at the Oxford Playhouse last year, Lee’s latest creation introduces a tough-talking werewolf comedian, the “Man-Wulf.” Emerging from the depths of the subconscious, the Man-Wulf confronts Lee with a biting critique of humanity and modern comedy.

This unique concept sets the stage for a battle of wits, as Lee, a master of self-deprecating humour and cultural critique, takes on this inner beast. The question lingers: can Lee’s critically acclaimed style of stand-up overcome the Man-Wulf’s ferocious challenge?

Why See This Show?

The sardonic Stewart Lee is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most innovative comedians, known for his meticulous and layered performances. His blend of sharp satire, self-awareness, and cultural commentary makes every show a thought-provoking and entertaining experience. With Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf, Lee offers something entirely fresh, pushing the boundaries of stand-up comedy by exploring themes of creative relevance, ageing, and the evolution of the comedy landscape.

A Stellar Career in Comedy

Stewart Lee began his stand-up career in 1988 and quickly made a name for himself, winning the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year in 1990. His impressive career includes writing and co-directing Jerry Springer: The Opera, which won four Olivier Awards. Lee’s BBC series, Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, earned him a BAFTA in 2012 and two British Comedy Awards in 2011.

People my age will know his role in the comedy duo, Lee and Herring most famous for their work on Fist of Fun in 1983, but their friendship dates back to when they both studied at the University of Oxford and performed in The Seven Raymonds comedy venue.

Beyond stand-up, Lee is a celebrated columnist, music journalist, and author, with several published works to his name. In 2023, he collaborated with the Royal Shakespeare Company to reimagine the Porter scene for their production of Macbeth.
