Oxford United vs Accrington Match Report
Karl Robinson’s gamble on playing a strong midweek side paid off as Oxford United recorded a morale boosting 5-1 win against Accrington Stanley in League One on a rainy Tuesday night.
Nathan Holland returned to the side and put the game to bed in the first half with a superb double, and will have been disappointed to have been denied a hat-trick when substituted in the 64th minute.
The wet surface played into the U’s favour, as creative midfielder Kane zipped balls to dictate the play.
Holland’s opener was excellent, as he picked the ball up deep and finished a great run with ease. The on-loan West Ham player opened his league account with style but his second was even better. Again he picked the ball up near the half-way line, this time teaming up with Taylor to release Seddon before finishing the cross with aplomb.
Taylor made it 3-0 with a smart lob, and when Stanley pulled one back it didn’t dampen the mood. Henry quickly played an inviting ball for Sykes to get a forth, and the late own goal was just the icing on the cake of the biggest win of the season.
